Your Monthly Calendar

One of the most powerful tools I use on a regular basis is my four day workweek calendar. This helps me plan out my upcoming month, and the most important activities for my free time, and the most important results I need to achieve for my work time. Now, what you’ll notice, if you look at this is there’s a couple things that are different from a traditional calendar. First of all, is I’ve got Monday is the first day of my week. And you don’t have to have this but I have it set up this way, because Monday is the beginning of my workweek. And my workweek is when all things go right most of the time. It’s going to be on a Thursday. And for me, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, I’m going to be taking off from work. Now, you might say, I’m not yet at a stage where I can do that, wait, I’m still working for somebody, I’m working six days or five days, whatever it might be. That’s fine. I’m going to encourage you to start planning your week, as much as possible in this way, where you get your most results on Monday through Thursday. And that Friday and Saturday. or whatever other days you work become less important for you. Now, again, you might have a completely different schedule might say, Well wait, I’m a realtor. And so I’m showing houses Saturday and Sunday. And so it’s slightly different, okay? But in essence, we want to anchor out and split aside some times when you’re going to look to be not working on those days. So in this case, I’m going to stick with Monday through Thursdays work, Friday through Sunday is no work. Now on the Friday through Sunday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, I’m going to be looking to put just one thing, what’s the one most important activity, I want to have happen that day, technically, you could put too if you want, especially when it’s Fridays, and Saturdays and Sundays, but it might be that I’m gonna have my date night, it might be that I’m going to do something, I’m going to go to the beach, whatever it might be, but that one activity, that’s going to be something I don’t normally do. So something such as brush my teeth, I’m not going to put on here. I do that all the time. I don’t need to be reminded. And on the work side, I don’t need to be reminded to answer the phones or answering emails, those are automatic things. On my work side, what I want to do is put the one result I want to achieve that day. Now, this might sometimes be the one main project you want to work on. But even in that way, I’m going to encourage you to do it in the sense of results. So for example, if you’re a salesperson, you might say, my one result is I want to sell X dollars worth of business or whatever it might be. But you might not be able to control that. So the next closest thing might be able to say, I’m going to make 50 sales calls. So at least you can control your activity level. And that can be a goal for the day. And that can still be a result that you did that amount of activity. Similarly, if your result for the day is you want to write a certain number of pages in a book or something that’s creative, something that’s not as easily planned. You could say you’re going to write a certain number of pages. Or you could say, I’m going to write for three hours uninterrupted or take your breaks, you know, five minute break. Every hour, whatever that might be, but in essence, I’m going to dedicate three hours or whatever it might be to that specific activity. And that too, can be resolved. And put simply, we want this to be a very clear map of the one most important thing on each of those days so that if you lost everything else, if this was your only calendar, your only checklist, if this was your only to do list, that you would get the most important things done that month. Now, if you look at the bottom part of it, what I’m doing is I’m breaking down my schedule into what I’d like to see happen. And I don’t have to plan everything every single hour, I can write in blocks of four or five hours at a time. But I find it very helpful if I can get clear about number one, what is my desired schedule. Now this is not my dream schedule for 20 years from now, this is a desired schedule that I can actually implement. So again, if you work for somebody else, and you have to work on a Friday, then work would be part of your schedule on a Friday. But you could start at least creating a separate version. Have this that is for your future goal for a year from now or two years from now. And in the meanwhile, we want to create that weekly default schedule, that’s going to get you the most amount of results on your workdays, and the most amount of fun and enjoyment and fulfillment on your weekends. And so in all of this, what we want to be doing is making sure that you’re very clear about what you’d like to see happen. And you start developing a rhythm. You start getting used to that on Wednesdays you do your marketing materials, or on Fridays, you’re playing volleyball at the beach bar, Saturday night is date night with your spouse, whatever it might be, but you’re getting very clear about what you’d like to see happen. And it makes it easier to make that start happening on a regular basis. So the two parts together the top and the bottom makeup, a one page tool, and so you can download that tool here. Hope you find this helpful. If you have any questions on this, as always, just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to help you
