Exercise 7 – Chop Wood, Carry Water

In this section, we’re going to look to keep things simple and practical. There’s a saying that I love and it goes like this before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water, after enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. I heard that first from one of my favorite teachers, Wayne Dyer. And it just really highlights the need or the practicality of keeping things simple, that we don’t change who we are, before we get connected or after we get connected with the divine. We don’t become this completely different being. There’s this greater sense of inspiration, there’s this greater sense of purpose. And yet, many of the things we do are still very grounded and very the same. And that will serve us tremendously in this journey that includes the workforce and the work world and your career, which is very grounded in reality and sometimes results and numbers and outcomes. So we’re going to look to bring inspiration into a world that can sometimes be very practical, sometimes perhaps too practical, and yet at the same time, know that we’re not only looking for these internal signs of connection, and guidance and support, but also looking to create results that help others that help move the causes we support forward and produce external signs of results. In order to get prepared for this exercise, open your mind and your heart to the possibility that you can connect with divine and decide that you’d like to connect with the divine and invite the divine to guide you in this process. Close your eyes and silently breathe in and out focusing on your breath. Count to three as you breathe in and count to three as you breathe out. Do this for 30 seconds. Maintain your intention to connect with the divine and receive guidance and ask the divine to guide you in this work as we explore these questions. What so work that you do? creates the biggest positive positive impact in the world. How much of this highest impact work should you do each week? When exactly should you do your highest impact work? What is your highest income work that still inspires you and helps others? How much of this highest income work should you do each week? When exactly should you do your highest income work? How can you create more impact and income from your highest income work? Now thank the divine for guiding you in this work. Breathe in and out for 30 more seconds Notice how you feel open your eyes and write down your answers from the exercise, plus anything else that comes to you before you move on to the next section.
