So, let’s begin our journey together into the book of Ruth, the book of Ruth from the New American Standard Bible. One now it came about in the days when the judges governed There was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem and Judah went to sojourn in the land of Moab with his wife and his two sons. To the name of the man was elimelech and the name of his wife, Naomi, and the names of his two sons were myclone and Kilian, he fights at Bethlehem and Judah. Now they entered the land of Moab and remain there. Three than elimelech, Naomi’s husband died, and she was left with her two sons, for they took for themselves Moabite women, his wives, the name of the one was or pond the name of the other Ruth, and they lived there about 10 years. Five then both myclone and Killian also died, and the woman was bereft of her two children and her husband, six then she arose with her daughters in law that she might return from the land of Moab, where she had heard in the land of Moab that the Lord had visited his people and giving them foods. Seven so she departed from the place where she was at her two daughters in law with her and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. Eight and Naomi said to her two daughters in law go Return each of you to her mother’s house, may the Lord deal kindly with you as you have dealt with a debt and with me, nine May the Lord grant that you may find rest each in the house of their husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept. 10 and they said to her, no, but we will surely return with you to your people. 11 bit Naomi said return my daughter’s Why should you go with me? Have I Yep, sons in my womb, that they may be your husband’s 12 return my daughter’s go, for I am too old to have a husband. If I said I have hope. If I should even have a husband tonight and also bear sons 13 would you therefore wait until they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No. My daughter’s for it is harder for me than for you. For the hand of the Lord has gone forth against me. 14 and they lifted up their voices and wept again. And orpah kissed her mother in law, but Ruth clung to her 15 then she said Behold, your sister in law has gone back to her people and her God returned after your sister in law. 16. But Ruth said, Do not urge me to leave your ward turn back from following you for where you go, I will go and where you launch, I will launch your people shall be my people and your God, my God. 17 where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. That’s May the Lord do to me, and worse, if anything but death parts you in the 18 when she saw that she was determined to go with her. She said no more to her. 19 so they both went until they came to Bethlehem. And when they had come to Bethlehem, all this city was stirred because of them. And the women said, Is this Naomi? 20 she said to them, Do not call me Naomi, call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went out full but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the Lord has witnessed against me and the Almighty has afflicted me. 22 so Naomi returned and with her Ruth the Moabite test her daughter in law who returned from the land of Moab, and they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest. The story commences with Naomi, her husband and her two sons traveling to Moab. in Moab the two sons get married. Naomi’s husband and two sons diamo apt, Naomi decided to go home to Bethlehem. Ruth decided to stay with her mother in law and traveled to Bethlehem with her. Why did Naomi’s two sons marry Moabite women, the famine in Israel must have continued, which prevented Naomi and her son from returning to the land. The two sons married Moabite women, which is forbidden. Deuteronomy 23 three says no amorite or Moabite shall enter the assembly of the Lord, none of their descendants, even to the 10th generation shall ever Enter the assembly of the Lord. The Talmud says that Ruth and Oprah, were Daughters of eglon, king of the moabites. In the book of Judges when egg lon met a hood, a judge of Israel, he stood up when a who told him that the Lord has a message for him. Since egg lon showed respect to the Lord, the Tom wood says that egg lamb became a part of the line of King David. Therefore, the Lord permitted the sons to marry Moabite women. Why did no you know me returned to Israel? Well, they only heard that the Lord had visited Israel and ended the drought. The famine in the land of Israel was over. There was no need for Naomi to stay in Moab. Therefore she prepared to go home. Why did Naomi tell her daughters in law to go home as opposed to returning to Israel with her? While Naomi did not want to return to Bethlehem with two Moabite daughters in law, because she was embarrassed by them, her sons decided to marry women who were an enemy of Israel. during a time of famine and drought, enemies put aside their differences and hospitality became the word of the day. The famine was severe in Israel. During Ruth’s time, the people of Moab saw what was happening in Israel, and in their land, food was plentiful. Therefore, the moabites freely open their borders to any Israelite who wanted to cross. Israelites are the descendants of Abraham, while the moabites were the tenants of lot. When Joshua conquered the land, the tension between Israel and the moabites had increased. We’ve come to the end of our examination of the book of Ruth chapter one.
