REVIEW:

'I loved the fact that your lessons were truly created with basics in mind! I have been painting on my own, or with some occasional lessons for a few years. I now feel more confident with the fundamentals which I had not been sure of before. thank you' Lorraine Sargent

If you've always wanted to paint with watercolor paints just do not know where to start. This course is for YOU.

This may be mostly suitable for adults.

Why? Because as adults you collect limiting beliefs about what you can and can't do. Painting might be one of them.

This is a 'learn through play' course and is very basic  You will simply learn how to get the paint from the box via the brush and onto the paper.

You will paint an apple three times but in different ways so that you can escape the draw and colour in method you learnt as a child.

If you want to make a start to paint without feeling intimidated by the paints, the process or the expectations. By simply playing with your paints, coloring in simple shapes your understanding will grow as will your confidence.

DO NOT take this course if you need a formal structure and are not prepared to lean through play. I will not talk about the names of colours, colour mixing, composition or drawing. It is just to get you started.

If you have already been painting with watercolors, this course is not for you.

Why choose one of my courses?

  • Because, as a self taught artist I understand how a lot of people feel about their creative work, sometimes anxious, sometimes overwhelmed and often that it's not 'good enough'. I will hold your hand as you overcome these fears as I offer a friendly, relaxed and sensitive teaching style.

I also have years of experience of teaching people of all levels both in person and via the internet.

Do one of my courses and you will feel as if I am in the room with you every step of the way.

Enjoy your painting, love Nicola

This is what one student posted in her blog : - 'I was so surprised to find that she (Nicola) started very simply, just playing with water and unmixed colors of paint. Slowly a beautiful patchwork of designs appeared on her page. Where boundaries and boundaries in the art have been blurred, she went to a pen and neatened up. Something else to add to the designs and to add some swirls and triangles to the dried paint. With growing excitement I realized that this project was well within my comfort zone. '

"This is ABSOLUTELY the best water color course that I have ever seen!!!!!!! And believe me I have searched! I was one of those "I can't do that" people, BUT NOT ANYMORE! I would easily give this 10 stars if I could!!!" ~ David Martinez

Have you ever tried “painting with water” before?

Do you want to learn how to make fun, colorful, translucent watercolor paintings?

It's simpler than you think!

Watercolor is a FUN way to paint!

It can swirl and drip, blend and bleed, all of this randomness and free flow,

believe it or not,

can make painting effortless and

open up many possibilities for your creativity to flow.

It can push you out of your comfort zone

and it can also pull you in to the moment.

It’s the only medium that can paint a painting with you.

What that means is,

you apply the paint and let the water do the rest.

How cool is that?!

WHO AM I?

Hey there! Broderick here and I paint in watercolor professionally,

from simple character designs, to realism, to fun art, even fine art pieces hanging in Museums in Europe.

  • I’ve been a featured artist for a major art supply chain (Youtube: “urban sketching broderick wong”)

  • Social media loves my quirky watercolor pet portraits (Google: “vancouver is awesome broderick wong”)

  • Placed first in live watercolor painting competitions (2016 Harmony Festival Plein Air Champion ; 2018 Grand Prix Plein Air Masters Division Champion)

  • The Fabriano InAcquarello 2020, an international watercolor painting conference hosted in Italy,

invited me to do an online painting demonstration as an international artist. (Google: "inarte fabriano 2020 brod wong”)

  • I've led live watercolor painting workshops for people who have never picked up a brush before

WHY LEARN FROM ME?

When I started, I knew absolutely nothing about painting or watercolor.

I was doing only black and white portraiture,

but I knew that if I wanted to challenge myself and grow,

I needed to learn color:

1) I played with watercolor, but it did everything except what I wanted it to

2) I experimented with acrylics, but it dried too quickly

3) Oils, well, it didn't dry fast enough

I got frustrated.

Everything I tried just wasn’t for me.

After 1 year, I gave watercolor another chance, but this time, I approached it differently.

I learned from books and non-instructional YouTube videos that I played over and over again

because I couldn’t find any instructors to guide me.

I had to figure it out on my own.

I ruined many watercolor paintings and didn’t know how to do them differently.

I experienced many happy accidents, but didn’t know how to recreate them successfully.

I persevered and took a handful of workshops and,

over a brief period, I developed a certain fluency in “reading” watercolor.

Watercolor has taught me so much about art, about myself, even about life!

This is why watercolor to me, is for life.

To anyone out there who has tried learning on their own but needs more guidance,

to those who have tried their hand at it and need a fresh way of approaching their workflow,

to those that don't even have any art background and are looking to try something new,

I've been there, and I got you covered.

Fast forward to today, if I could have kick-started a path to success for myself to follow,

to learn watercolor painting quicker without making so many mistakes, what would that look like?

Through my experience in teaching myself and others,

I have peeled away those layers to its core essence,

and it is with this awareness that I present to you:

Watercolor Painting for Beginners

I’m excited to help you learn to create watercolor paintings you could be proud of!

"Only 5 lessons into this course and I love it! Broderick's videos are fun and informative! The videos have already addressed some of the frustrations I have experienced with watercolors in the past. I am feeling more confident in the fact that I can learn to use watercolors and all the different types of materials available. Excited for this course! Thank you Broderick for sharing what you learned from your own journey with watercolors!" ~ Jade Napier

                                                                                           ~o~

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Whether you've never picked up a brush before, or if you’re hoping to understand the medium better,

you'll want to finally learn watercolor the way it's meant to be used.

ARE YOU AN ABSOLUTE BEGINNER?

Are you looking for a new hobby,

or maybe you’ve gathered a collection of watercolor supplies but haven't found the time or courage to paint

or maybe you’re looking for a break from other more career goal oriented courses?

  • Are you concerned about buying more than you need or can afford?

  • Do you learn best through casual conversations instead of formal lectures?

  • Would you appreciate tips, reminders, directing you through exercises every step of the way?

With watercolor, you don't need a lot of materials to start painting.

I recommend a few decent materials that are not crazy expensive nor are they sub-par-quality cheap.

I've also designed Watercolor Painting for Beginners to be sequential,

which means, steps from previous lessons are seamlessly incorporated with the new.

"I've dabbled in watercolours for years, going to night classes etc and really felt a bit flummoxed by the medium. This course broke it all down into bite size chunks that are really fun to do and I'm learning more per half hour than i did in 20 hrs flailing around on my own. Very good teaching." ~ Susan Kuchenberg

ARE YOU AN “ON AND OFF” PAINTER?

You've tried watercolor but find it difficult to control, you may need a refresher on watercolor or maybe you need direction because you seem to choose the wrong and complicated things to paint?

  • Would you appreciate hearing what artists think as they paint?

  • Do you find painting the same thing over and over boring and tiresome?

  • Do you appreciate some background information about watercolor, and a progressive build up of technique and application?

If you've painted before, pay special attention to the first 2 lessons. It will provide more structure to the way you paint, so you avoid guesswork or uncertainty, catapulting your confidence to paint with more intention. No matter what your style is, what you learn is essential.

READY TO GO OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW?

"The course is a lot of fun and I'm learning a ton, enjoying the balance of a lot of hands-on to "lecture." There's a lot of focus on fundamentals which seems exactly what is needed, and the extensive practice is helping. Believe Broderick when he says do not use student-grade paints! Cheap paints held me back with streaks and blobs I could not control until going out and getting some better paints...and a lot of my "sloppiness" suddenly improved." ~ George Rogers

                                                                                          ~o~

THE PROBLEM WITH LEARNING

There are watercolor painting classes out there that use up hours on soul-crushing lectures and theory

before putting brush to paper and when you finally do, it's all about repetitive drills,

forgettable color chart and swatch exercises,

demoralizing activities that are too mediocre or too complex,

random techniques without understanding why,

leaving you with so much playing, experimenting and accidents,

but still not knowing how to properly apply the knowledge in a practical way.

I'm here to show you that learning doesn't have to be mind-numbing.

Seriously. You just need the right guidance.

WATERCOLOR PAINTING FOR BEGINNERS

1) SHORT LASER-FOCUSED LESSONS

My Watercolor Painting For Beginners course does not involve a bowl of fruit, numerous lectures, drills and excruciating repetition.

My live watercolor painting workshops have given me the opportunity to target and isolate very specific challenges about the painting process,

from a learner’s point of view, and then break them down into short laser-focused lessons.

I found that these challenges are multi-layered and overlapping,

making it difficult to know where to begin.

This is why you may feel you’re taking 2 steps forward and 4 steps back.

My Watercolor Painting For Beginners course peels away those layers,

then simplifies them into short focused lessons,

allowing you to learn only what you need to know at that time, to get you to the next level.

Succeeding lessons will have their own short, focused sessions that gradually build on top of the previous.

2) LEARN WITHOUT THE INFORMATION OVERLOAD

● I’ve distilled traditional art theory & practice into their fundamental essence

● I use easy to understand language (aka no artsy fartsy terminologies)

● I thoughtfully produce my material and content: Straight to the point. No extra fluff.

3) SEQUENTIAL LEARNING

The way information is presented, oddly enough, has an enormous impact on what you learn,

how fast you learn and how you apply it. (Sometimes whether you learn at all!)

I designed this course to build new information on top of what you already know. Think Lego.

● New lessons introduce new techniques & reinforce what you learned in previous lessons

● Lessons include carefully designed activities to match the skill level

● Lessons are concise but packed with only relevant information

"Thank you so very much Broderick and also for this really great course. I think the biggest improvement is regarding the confidence. I'm way more at ease when painting now, at least with the style we have practised here. I don't feel stress or anxious and I think I'm more patient. :-)" ~ Dennies Goldau

4) NO SECOND GUESSING!

Knowing differs from understanding.

Random tips and tricks are good for 1-time activities,

but have you tried painting something else after

and felt like it sent you straight back to kindergarten?

I've been there before. (A few times actually. Sigh.)

You need a stronger foundation to fall back on.

Understanding what you’re doing with your watercolor will take you much further.

● Too much control = Overworked, muddy paintings

● Too much spontaneity = One big-happy-accident-type-of-paintings

● Controlled spontaneity = Fresh, glowing, transparent paintings

5) LET GO OF THE FEAR OF STARTING

“I need to tidy up my work space”

“Those plants look like they need a little drink today”

“The cat needs…another bath!”

The fear of uncertainty encourages procrastination.

What if I told you one tip you can do to sidestep your hesitation?

(And no, it doesn’t involve sticking notes with the words “Let It Go” all over the place.)

They say that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

What if I told you that the shortest distance between

staring at a blank paper and actually painting on it

are only 4 dots, would you give it a try?

Learn my 4 Strengths Method.

This is a complete GAME CHANGER, one that I personally use

to ensure that I paint with more confidence, minimize any rework and overcome any initial hesitation.

That small piece of awareness was so valuable and so well put together! The whole course must be a goldmine!! ~ Lara Marchionni-Jones

6) HAVE FUN WHILE YOU LEARN!

There’s painting for fun, and then there’s painting to learn while having fun.

The course videos are professionally produced to educate and entertain.

This balance ensures a variety of presentations, instruction, humor and pacing!

● Painting for fun = Just playing with paints, there is not much technique to take away.

● Painting to learn = Heavy on theory and drills.

● Painting to learn while having fun equips you with what you need to know, right away, so you can enjoy the watercolor painting process more.

                                                                                          ~o~

HOW ELSE CAN I HELP YOU?

I’m here to help you think like water.

The more you understand, the less uncertainty there is, the more excited you will be to paint.

You will first learn how to control your watercolor.

Then I’ll show you how to use water and let it do what it wants.

This is what I call, Controlled Spontaneity: A give and take between you and the watercolor.

You will learn how to use water, to do different techniques, such as smooth washes, blending, glazing, color mixing, and so much more.

Q1: I don’t have strong drawing skills, should I take a drawing class first?

You don’t need to know how to draw.

Since the focus of the lessons are about painting and not drawing,

I will teach you a quick and easy way to sketch (that even kids can do!)

so you can start painting right away.

Q2: I had done so little watercolour painting before and I quit from frustration. “What makes your course different from others?”

"This course was exactly what I needed! I always wanted to try watercolor for a long time, but all those free tutorials on YouTube just kept me confused. But, in this course, Brod breaks it down into small sizable activities without any fluff, just like how it is said in the description. All in all, I'm really happy with this course and I'm surely looking forward to the wet-on-wet course that's coming up!" ~ Manu

My course is professionally produced:

● All videos are shot in high definition

● Over the head shots showing my entire set up

● Close-up shots for color mixing

● Clear and consistent audio/commentary

● Combination of energetic and relaxed pacing

● Casual conversations instead of formal lectures

● Receive the information in small segments. No over explaining.

● Animation/Visual Cues to let you know where I want you to focus on

● Fun activities with new challenges in each lesson to build up technique and application

You will learn my 4 Strengths Method, a complete GAME CHANGER that will jump start the way you paint, right after the 2nd lesson.

This course includes everything that I teach in my live workshops,

combining 2 of my workshops ($400 total value) plus access to additional,

bonus paint along videos to get more practice after the course.

If you’ve taken different classes before but still have a hard time controlling watercolor,

my Watercolor Painting for Beginners course can help.

This is not your typical, traditional course.

My live watercolor painting workshops have allowed me to refine the lessons into what they are today,

breaking down the watercolor process even more into its most essential concepts.

I did notice a difference - increased confidence. I realize I need to take my time, pay attention, look, plan, especially mixing enough paint, adding colour to the puddle in small increments.. Thinking about the colours & water control was also useful. Each of the steps you covered were so helpful. - Helen O’Neill

Q3: Things are quite busy with work/kids/life. What if I don’t finish the lesson?

These lessons are available anytime you need them, wherever you are in the world.

Learn at your own pace as long as you have a computer and an internet connection.

                                                                                          ~o~

So, are you ready to finally start CREATING your very own beautiful watercolor painting instead of just admiring the work of others?

Then enroll now! I can’t wait to help you create your amazing paintings with color & water.

This is by far the best course I've taken on Udemy. The instructor is engaging, knowledgeable, and the information is both fun and informative. I'm SO impressed and excited I signed up for this course! Thank you!!! <3 ~ Cynthia Hauk

Do you find that your paintings seldom finish off looking good? Or do you abandon your painting halfway because nothing is looking right? Scraping back the paint in frustration only to abandon the painting is annoying. Not to mention a waste of time and money.

The solution in many cases is what you do even before you begin painting. It is all about the preparation and start where the real outcome is usually determined.

Any professional will tell you that there are a thousand ways to paint your picture and ruin it too. But most agree that getting the painting off to a great start is critical Step One

That is why I decided to create this short course with a focus on the start. This course is based on part of my Learn to Impact Master Course. The latter has much more detail should you want to take your learning to the next level.

The Secret to Your Painting Success will give you much information and practical tips that you can try out now with your next painting. Make that step up in your painting before moving onto more complicated techniques.

  2. A canvas or painting panel

  4. Medium or white spirits
  5. Paper towel
  6. Pencil and A5 sketchbook
  7. Black marker pen (thick wedge shaped tip)

"If you are looking for an engaging, fun and informative course, I would highly encourage you to sign up for this one! Broderick's teaching style is engaging, easy to follow and fun! I began painting in April 2020 after enrolling in a mixed media course on Udemy and fell in love with watercolors and inks. Since then, I've participated in several in-person workshops and other online classes/academies, and recently decided to give Udemy another go for watercolor painting. I found Broderick's Watercolor for Beginner's class and after watching the intro video I was hooked! About halfway through the beginner's course, I found this Next Level course and immediately enrolled. Both have been phenomenal and I am really enjoying his teaching and artistic style"  - Tiffany White

Do you want to take your painting to the next level?

The secret ingredient to improving the way you paint is...

...MORE water!

Did you know that the same water you use to mix your paints with can be used as another tool in your watercolor toolbox?

Using more water when your paint, can give your work a more organic look, with very little effort.

You just need to set up the right conditions then, let the water do what it wants, and I'm here to show you how!

WHO AM I?

Hey there! Broderick here and I paint in watercolor professionally,

from simple character designs, to realism, to fun art, even fine art pieces hanging in Museums in Europe.

WHY LEARN FROM ME?

When I felt I knew enough, I wanted to paint everything, from landscapes to animals, to portraits and urban scenes, but I quickly realized that every step I took forward, I took 4 steps back. It was such a strange, unusual experience which made me rethink how I had been painting.

I ruined many watercolor paintings trying to paint in a different style. I experienced many happy accidents, but didn’t know how to recreate them successfully. I persevered and took a handful of workshops and, over a brief period, I realized that there are levels to watercolors!

Fast forward to today, if I could have kick-started a path to success for myself to follow, to learn watercolor painting quicker without making so many mistakes, what would that look like? Through my experience in teaching myself and others, I have found the one thing that unlocks the full potential of watercolors and it is with this awareness that I present to you:

Watercolor Painting: Next Level Techniques and Water Effects

"I really enjoyed the beginners course, and this one just takes off where the other left off. Already in the very first lesson I am learning something. I really enjoy this instructor's courses, its fun and informative, and would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in painting with watercolors." - Schantel Fick

                                                                                                  ~o~

WHO IS THIS FOR?

If you're comfortable with the basic rules of watercolor, then you're going to have fun breaking these rules

and have the confidence to produce different effects that can't be achieved knowing the basics alone.

READY TO PAINT DIFFERENTLY AND DIVE INTO SOMETHING NEW?

                                                                                                   ~o~

THE PROBLEMS WITH LEARNING

There are lots of materials that some would use, from salts to soaps, stamps to cellophane, from wax to markers, to metallic paints and colored pencils. While they can be used to produce different effects they can:

  • Be quite costly to buy

  • Affect the longevity of your painting

  • Take up so much space on your table

  • May compromise your development of proper technique and application

MY SOLUTIONS TO LEARNING

If I showed you an easier way to achieve more with less, using only water, does that sound good?

You will learn special applications I developed that will help you control your water, then let go of that control, allowing the water to paint the painting with you. This gives your painting that fresh, fluid, “just painted” look even long after its dried. Using no extraneous materials, only water.

My Watercolor Painting: Next Level Techniques and Water Effects course is all about painting Wet On Wet. What is Wet On Wet? Have a look at one the free preview videos to get a better idea of how to put the W.O.W. (Wet On Wet) in your paintings!

  • You will learn the difference between Wet on Dry and W.O.W. painting

  • There will be 4 new W.O.W. techniques, that you can look forward to, allowing you to control your water and let go of that control, to let the water paint the painting with you

  • My 4 Phases of Wetness will teach you how to intuitively know to keep on painting or when to stop

  • This course includes everything that I teach in my live Wet On Wet workshops, ($260 total value)

  • Additional, bonus paint along videos to get more practice after the course

WHAT IS YOUR COURSE LIKE?

If you’ve taken different classes before but still have a hard time controlling watercolor or painting loose, my Watercolor Painting: Next Level Techniques and Water Effects course can help:

1) SHORT LASER-FOCUSED LESSONS

My live watercolor painting workshops have given me the opportunity to target and isolate very specific challenges about the painting process,

from a learner’s point of view, and then break them down into short laser-focused lessons.

I found that these challenges are multi-layered and overlapping,

making it difficult to know where to begin.

This is why you may feel you’re taking 1 step forward and 4 steps back.

My Watercolor Painting: Next Level Techniques and Water Effects course peels away those layers,

then simplifies them into short focused lessons,

allowing you to learn only what you need to know at that time, to get you to the next level.

"I'm glad I took this course. I've been frustrated trying to learn watercolors on my own. But because of this, I become even more excited with this medium. Thanks!" - Riamarie San Jose

What if I told you that all you need to do, is to just set up the right conditions and let the water paint it for you, would you give it a try?

"I'm not even halfway through the course, but I have learned so much already about CONTROLLING the water in wet on wet watercolor painting. Thank you, Broderick! You are a masterful teacher." - Diana D

Then I’ll show you how to just let it do what it wants.

This is what I call, Controlled Spontaneity: A give and take between you and the watercolor.

You will learn how to use water, to do different wet on wet techniques, ones that are a far departure from beginner techniques.

"Yes: this has been a good match.T The instructor is very clear with instructions. The video work is exceptional!!" - Jason Poole

Q1: I don’t have strong drawing skills, should I take a drawing class first?

You don’t need to know how to draw.

Since the focus of the lessons are about painting and not drawing,

I will teach you a quick and easy way to sketch (that even kids can do!)

so you can start painting right away.

Q2: I had done so little watercolor painting before and I quit from frustration. “What makes your course different from others?”

My course is professionally produced:

● All videos are shot in high definition

● Over the head shots showing my entire set up

● Close-up shots for color mixing

● Clear and consistent audio/commentary

● Combination of energetic and relaxed pacing

● Casual conversations vs. formal lectures

● Receive the information in small segments. No over explaining.

● Animation/Visual Cues to let you know where I want you to focus on

● Fun activities with new challenges in each lesson to build up technique and application

This is not your typical, traditional course.

My live watercolor painting workshops have allowed me to refine the lessons into what they are today,

breaking down the watercolor process even more into its most essential concepts.

"I have taken a couple of Broderick’s past courses on Watercolor painting (beginner’s course on Udemy and another one via a different platform) and he is really a fantastic instructor. He exudes such high energy and is very enthusiastic that you can tell he is passionate about his art. This new course is as fun and educational as his previous ones. He takes the time to take his students step by step so you don’t ever get lost. He is clear in his explanations. His video taking is also not just static so we can see what he’s doing from different point of views and angles. He is also a very encouraging teacher and will assist offline if you have any questions. I’ve really been waiting to level up my Watercolor technique and I’m so excited to do this wet on wet method of painting with Broderick again." - Soozee Ang

Q3: Things are quite busy with work/kids/life. What if I don’t finish the lesson?

These lessons are available anytime you need them, wherever you are in the world.

Learn at your own pace as long as you have a computer and an internet connection.

                                                                                                    ~o~

So, are you ready to level up instead of painting happy accidents?

Then enroll now! I can’t wait to help you put the W.O.W. In your paintings using only color & water!

"Hasta el momento ha sido puramente introductorio pero las explicaciones son claras y las demostraciones excelsas. ¡Estoy ansioso de comenzar a practicar!" Elliot Iñaky González Rodríguez

"Love watching your course B, I’m learning so much!! Wet on wet painting with watercolors has always been a mystery to me. My many unsuccessful attempts have left me wondering how artists consistently achieve these gorgeous, subtle, organic effects. He shares his method for painting these effects effortlessly and beautifully, step by step and makes it so much fun and memorable along the way. Sooo glad I will no longer be hoping for accidents that will go “right". Now I have a much better understanding of how to create the paintings I want thanks to his easy to understand method and clear explanations. Love his scientific explanations and little stories about his subjects, he is so engaging! Thanks Broderick, for unveiling the magical mysteries of wet on wet painting!!" - Caroline

I'd say that he is a patient teacher and a very effective communicator. He is also organized and gets to the point so you have more time to learn. He is also funny which makes the class more fun. Time just flew by because he showed passion in his art and it was obvious when he taught. - Suzie Ang

Have you always wanted to paint a landscape scene?

Landscape painting can be seen as

taking small, individual activities

and putting them together into one complete painting.

Now how do we put it all together?

The big secret to painting landscapes

is not how much you need to know,

but what you need to know, first

and I'm here to teach you.

WHO AM I?

  • I’m also the creator of two popular and highly rated watercolor courses here on Udemy, including my best-selling Watercolor Painting for Beginners.

In this course, I'll show you how to put together a complete scene using the basic techniques, properly.

WHY LEARN FROM ME?

When I felt I knew enough, I wanted to paint EVERYTHING, from landscapes to animals, to portraits and urban scenes, but I quickly realized that with every 1 step I took forward, I took 4 steps back. It was such a strange, unusual experience that made me rethink how I had been painting. I ruined many watercolor paintings trying to paint in a different style. I experienced many happy accidents but didn’t know how to recreate them successfully.

Watercolor Painting Landscapes For Beginners

Broderick's personality to teach made the learning enjoyable. It was not about how good he was an artist but how we can achieve what he was showing us to accomplish a finished painting. The technique was simple, easy to follow and not hard to comprehend. Broderick is inspirational and "YES" Watercolour Essentials is the WAY TO GO!!! - April Lee

THE PROBLEMS WITH LEARNING

Now there can be a long list of rules theories and concepts to know and study and there are courses out there that either give too much technical information without relevant exercises, or they don't tell or show you enough and you still have to figure it out on your own.

I will share with you my secret, I will teach you how to "see", like an artist first.

I have found the most critical piece of learning for you to start with. This is the foundation that I believe you need to know first, before knowing everything else. Think of a cube, with velcro attached to all sides. Any piece of information you continue to learn after, will “stick” with you longer, because you will have a strong point of reference that you can

  • You will learn the 4 zones to help you know what to paint first, what to paint next, and what to paint last

in a landscape scene.

  • Then, I'll show you how to apply the basics , differently to create the illusion of depth and distance, glassy watery reflections, or a multi-colored sky,

  • You will learn how to mix different color combinations, with only a few colors.

  • You will be painting 4 different scenes, each representing the 4 seasons: painting a winter, spring, summer, and an autumn

  • You will learn how I paint thin, fine lines to create tree branches

  • This course includes everything that I teach in my live Wet On Wet workshops, ($260 total value) If you’ve taken different watercolor painting courses before but still have a hard time putting all your learning together into one complete painting, my Watercolor Painting Landscapes For Beginners course can help.

Online watercolor portrait painting class - easy step by step approach from scratch to finish with Eliza the Watercolour Witch!

Watch her create a portrait of a fairy with watercolor… and do the same following her easy-to-follow steps!

Is this you?

You…

  • Love to paint, but worry that you’re not artistic enough and will not be able to paint as well as other people

  • Try to learn watercolor techniques by reading books that sound easier than they really are

  • Find it difficult to control the amount of water to paint ratio on the paper

  • Struggle with wet on wet consistently; have difficulty in figuring out how much water to use when painting with watercolors

  • Wish you could control the flow of the paint more

  • Always have a hard time finding a motive. And when you finally do you struggle to make your painting look exactly like what you have in mind.

I could go on and on about the different struggles that painters like you go through every day, but that won’t change anything – it’ll only make matters worse.

You don’t want a constant reminder of what you’re doing wrong. What you need is a way out, a fun new way to start creating the watercolor portrait painting of your dreams.

Although it doesn’t look like it…

and you may be thinking that this is way too hard. Trust me it is WAY easier than it looks. If you can trace an outline and color it in, you can do this. Seriously, you have to try it!

And The Best Part…

You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars in art school or spend years learning things that work and things that don’t!

What if you could skip all that and get a professional step-by-step training from a watercolorist who has taught more than 23000 students around the globe on how to watercolor with ease?

That way you don’t spend your precious days collecting hundreds of art supplies you’ll never use or buying art books and watching countless watercolor videos that in the end just make you want to give up painting entirely!

You want something a bit more structured. The RIGHT training that cuts off all the fluff and teaches you the ONLY things that matter – basically everything you need to master creating your own watercolor portrait.

Introducing…

WATERCOLOR CLASS – BLACK FOREST FAIRY PORTRAIT

Easy to follow step-by-step online class that shows you how to accurately paint a portrait with great likeness!

Overcome the challenges of watercolor portrait and take control of your painting!

…The place is HERE, and the time is NOW!

If painting the human portrait is a challenge or mystery, then come learn Fail-Proof yet Simple Techniques in a class offered by an illustrator and watercolor art teacher: Eliza, the Watercolour Witch.

She has taught more than 23000 students all over the world on how to watercolor the easy way and will be sharing her secrets to painting facial features and skin tones to capture the likeness of your subject.

In this painting class, Eliza have made the entire process easy. That means…

  • You won’t be learning how to draw a portrait. You will have a line art template ready, so all you do is color the line art into the finished painting

  • The portrait you will paint won’t be in realistic style but in Eliza’s signature style. So, if you like her artworks, you can learn her techniques on how to paint portraits like hers.

This class will combine instructions, demonstrations, and discussion!

This class is perfect for Beginners (even if you’ve never handled a brush before) and Experienced Artists (who can pick up some new techniques).

WHAT ARE WE PAINTING?

I’m sure by now you must have guessed what we will be painting in this watercolor portrait class. And if you guessed “a magical being that lives in the forest,” then you’re absolutely correct!

Since childhood Eliza was interested in folklore and magical things, so that’s why she decided to paint this faery-like creature and teach you how to paint it too.

This fairy in the painting is a wood wife and according to Germanic mythology, wood wives are a class of fairy people who inhabit the forests of Germany and Scandinavia.

Wood wives are generally gentle and helpful to humans who happen to pass through the forest. They may show lost travelers the way out or teach what herbs to use to treat sickness.

If you take the class, you can upload your fairy painting so Eliza can give you support if you got stuck during the painting process. You can as well ask Eliza anything that’s related to the painting process.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

In this course Eliza is going to talk about:

  • How to paint this forest fairy from line art to finish.

  • How to mix skin color with just a basic color pallette.

  • How to create colorful hair.

  • How to create an effortless monochrome forest background.

  • Techniques which will make your portrait more outstanding.

And much more...

Moreover you can discover and practice basic inking techniques with Eliza.

While in other classes you need to sketch the project yourself, in this beginner-friendly class a downloadable line art template (coloring page) is included, which takes away the stress of having to produce a sketch before the painting.

When I started painting watercolor paintings over 30 years ago,I met an old watercolor painter who told me to buy just 7 colors and learn how these paints react and stick with them.

Of course I didn't believe him and went on to buy as many bits of kit and colors that I could afford.

Then, when I would start a painting,by the time I had figured out which colors I would use in the painting I had lost some of my enthusiasm and midway through the colors would start to become "muddy",I wasn't sure which green to use or how much white to mix in or how dark my black shadows should be.

So I decided to throw out all my "collection" of paint and I stuck with;

Lemon yellow

Alizarin Crimson

Ultramarine

Raw sienna

Burnt sienna

Paynes grey

Raw umber

No white,No Black and definitely no Greens!

In this tutorial I will show you that these are the only colors you need.

Have you ever tried “painting flowers before but ended up with

  • Mud

  • Billions of brush strokes

  • Stiff-looking stems or

  • Petals that look overworked and tired

Would you believe that painting different kinds of flowers, botanicals or foliage can be done using a combination of only 2 essential techniques?

They sure do!

Watercolors can flow and drip, blend and bleed, all of which can make painting flowers, effortless. What that means is, you apply the paint and let the water do the rest. You just need to let the water and color, paint the painting with you, and I'm here to show you how!

WHO AM I?

Hey there! Broderick here and I paint in watercolor professionally, from simple character designs to realism, to fun art, even fine art pieces hanging in Museums in Europe.

  • I’ve been a featured artist for a major art supply chain (Youtube: “urban sketching broderick wong”)

  • Social media loves my quirky watercolor pet portraits (Google: “Vancouver is awesome broderick wong”)

  • Placed first in live painting competitions (2016 Harmony Festival Plein Air Champion; 2018 Grand Prix Plein Air Masters Division Champion)

  • The Fabriano InAcquarello 2020, an international watercolor painting conference hosted in Italy, invited me to do an online painting demonstration as an international artist. (Google: "inarte fabriano 2020 brod wong”)

  • I've led live watercolor painting workshops for people who have never picked up a brush before

  • I'm also the creator of 3 highly popular watercolor courses here on Udemy, including the Bestseller Watercolor Painting for Beginners

WHY LEARN FROM ME?

There are watercolor painting classes out there that use up hours on soul-crushing lectures and theory before putting brush to paper and when you finally do, it's all about repetitive drills, forgettable color chart and swatch exercises, demoralizing activities that are too mediocre or too complex, random techniques without understanding why, leaving you with so much playing, experimenting, and accidents, but still not knowing how to properly apply the knowledge in a practical way.

I'm here to show you that learning doesn't have to be mind-numbing.

Seriously. You just need the right guidance.

1) SHORT LASER-FOCUSED LESSONS

In this course, you will start with simple activities to equip you with 2 essential flower-power techniques, taking time to apply them properly on simpler subjects first.

2) SEQUENTIAL LEARNING

Then, you will learn how to combine these techniques with the fundamentals:

  • Creating the illusion of volume and depth without painting every single petal

  • Describe dimension through subtle folds and wrinkles

  • Learn how to blend colors to create soft marks and exploding patterns

  • Create flowing lines of stems and veins using brush techniques

New lessons introduce new techniques & reinforce what you learned in previous lessons. Lessons include carefully designed activities to match the skill level. Lessons are concise but packed with only relevant information

3) PROCESS-ORIENTED VS. RESULTS-ORIENTED

My style of teaching is process-based, meaning, you will walk away with proper technique and application so you can paint your own flowers after. You will not be limited to painting just the flowers in the activities. This is why I refer to it as Flower Power Techniques, techniques you can use to paint your own projects!

4) NOT YOUR TYPICAL, TRADITIONAL COURSE

My live watercolor painting workshops have given me the opportunity to target and isolate very specific challenges about the painting process, from a learner’s point of view, and then break them down into short laser-focused lessons.I found that these challenges are multi-layered and overlapping, making it difficult to know where to begin.

This is why you may feel you’re taking 2 steps forward and 4 steps back.

My Watercolor Painting Flowers (and all my other courses) peel away those layers, then simplifies them into short focused lessons, allowing you to learn only what you need to know at that time, to get you to the next level. Succeeding lessons will have their own short, focused sessions that gradually build on top of the previous.

This course includes everything that I teach in my $260 live workshops and more!

It's jam-packed with extra tips, full commentary, clear instructions, and step-by-step guidance. You will get access to additional learning
through other student works, responses to questions, and, did I mention, you don't need to know how to draw?

I've also prepared a special lesson that integrates everything, complete with background, subtle texture, light, and shadow making your painting pop!

WHO IS THIS FOR?

If you already know the fundamentals of Wet on Dry and Wet on Wet painting, but don't want to spend 1-hour painting ...1 petal, or if you want to paint different types of flowers where you paint as you learn right away, instead of sitting through, lengthy, boring lectures presenting more challenges before you paint, then Watercolor Painting Flowers is for you!

Are you an Absolute Beginner?

If you are looking for a new hobby, or maybe you’ve gathered a collection of watercolor supplies but haven't found the time or courage to paint or maybe you’re looking for a break from other more career goal-oriented courses, I would recommend taking my Watercolor Painting for Beginners first.

Are you an "On and Off" Painter?

As long as you are comfortable with Wet on Dry and Wet on Wet applications, then this is for you. But, if You've tried watercolor and find it difficult to control, you may need a refresher on watercolor or maybe you need direction because you seem to choose the wrong and complicated things to paint.

  • Do you appreciate hearing what artists think as they paint?

  • Do you find painting the same thing over and over boring and tiresome?

  • Do you appreciate some background information about watercolor and a progressive build-up of technique and application?

If you feel you need more guidance with Wet on Dry painting, my Watercolor Painting For Beginners is a good place to start. If you've got a good handle on Wet on Dry but always wanted to learn the secrets to Wet on Wet painting, then Watercolor Painting For Beginner Techniques and Effects is what you need to learn first.
