Students: 195546, Price: Free

Why Take This Course?

You have a DSLR Camera or a fancy Point-and-shoot, but have not been using it to it's full potential. You know that the scary "manual mode" holds a whole new level of customization which would result in better quality photos but have resisted. Terms like Shutter Speed and Aperture sound confusing and you don't know where to start.

If that sounds familiar, I want to assure you that by the end of my FREE course you will understand what those settings do and be on your way to controlling your camera rather than your camera controlling you.

You made an investment in a decent camera and it's time to start using it's features

In this course you will learn the basics of DSLR Photography and how to shoot in manual mode. My goal is to give you the tools so you can train your brain to think like a Photographer. You will also know how to control your camera instead of leaving it up to Auto Mode to try and to it's best.

How Long Is This Course?

So far, the course is just over 4 hours in length. You can watch it in chunks or all at once. It is best to watch it with camera in hand so you can pause and follow along with your camera. All DSLR Cameras are different so your settings may look different than mine.

What Should I Expect?

You should expect to be able to shoot photos with confidence in pretty much all situations. Whether you are taking pictures of your kids for the memories or are considering Photography as a profession, this is everything I had to teach myself in order to understand my camera.

Who are you Jerad Hill?

I am a Wedding Photographer with over 6 years of professional experience. I have shot over 200 weddings, 120 engagement sessions, 150 portrait sessions and 1000's of photos of my own kids. For fun I have shot live concerts and music videos. I am also a Wedding Videographer and do a lot with video. Expect a course on DSLR Video soon.

Thanks for checking out my course. Please subscribe and make sure to share it with that friend of yours who has a nice camera that is always complaining about not understanding it.

Natural Light Fashion / Beauty Photography

Natural light is a popular way for fashion or beauty photography. We explore modern methods of natural light photography

Created by Don Giannatti - Photographer, Designer, Author and Educator

"]

Students: 32924, Price: Free

There is something inherently beautiful about natural light. It can be soft and warm, or hard and unforgiving, or even have a sort of melancholy to it. These are the areas we will be looking at in this course.

Fashion and Beauty photography make use of natural light in many ways. A recent viewing of Vogue (October, 2012) reveals many natural light photography shots by up and coming and well established photographers. The techniques are not hard to understand, but still require the finesse and deliberate approach that is required when using artificial lighting.

We will look at natural light from all angles; full sun, modified sun, shade and moody, emotional light.

We will build some inexpensive modifiers for natural light, and also show how to correctly use white reflectors, silver and gold reflectors, scrims, mirrors, and more. These tools are not expensive, but the results they give can be astounding.

The natural light fashion/beauty photography course is divided into 12 lectures, each running approximately 30 minutes. There is a workbook, plans for building a scrim and large reflector, and lots of videos.

Most lectures include a shoot with the gear we are using, a Photoshop tutorial, the PSD file for viewing and a look at how the final images were selected. Looking at the images as they are shot, and then edited, is very powerful as a learning tool.

If you are interested in portraiture, fashion, beauty or glamour, this natural light photography course will open your eyes to the very cool ways you can use natural light to make your images.

The beauty photography course is suited to any level of photographer. I recommend a light meter, although we will also show you ways to use your camera meter as we go. A couple of stands would also be a good addition to your natural light arsenal.

This class also has over two hours of bonus content, with new content being added in May 2013 and June 2013.

Understanding Depth Of Field (It’s not just about F-stops)

What is Depth Of Field And How Can You Control It

Created by Denis Lemay - Professional Photographer

"]

Students: 365, Price: Free

What is Depth Of Field (DOF)

The distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that give an image judged to be in focus in a camera.

One fo the key elements of aperture is depth of field. All variables in photography have a give and take, and with your aperture as we gain light we also lose depth of field. But aperture is not the only variable the affects depth of field, so we will take a look at those other variables.

In this lesson you will see how DOF is controlled by two key elements F-stops and distance from camera to subject and we'll take look at a few other variables.

Video tutorials:

1. Introduction

2. What is DOF.

3. How aperture and distance controls DOF.

This course is an introduction to Mindful Photography. Mindful Photography is mindfulness applied to and developed through photography. It is a mindful practice and it offers the opportunity for you to develop your ability to be present in the moment, connected to your whole experience, expand your perspective and therefore enrich your photographs.

Mindful Photography provides you with the opportunity to use what you see as your anchor; in much the same way as when you meditate you use your breath as an anchor. When you are out creating photographs, the visual experience becomes your primary sensory concern. You can be sitting or walking, observing your surroundings. Every time you notice that your mind has wandered off - planning a shot, dreaming of a photographic possibility, worrying about your ability or even just thinking about later in the day - you come back to the visual experience.

This observance is at the heart of the 4 Stage Seeing Practice. This practice will act as your foundation for developing a mindful approach to photography and will develop your ability to see, to see everything that is in front of you. Perhaps that sounds too simple. How difficult can it be to see? I believe that the speed we now take photographs, in that desire of acquisition, restricts our ability to see what is really in front of us.

The 4 Stage Seeing Practice is a kind of meditation. It is in essence mindfulness applied to photography. It is at the heart of being present with your visual experience and is the foundation of becoming a mindful photographer. This practice has the potential to transform your photos from good to great.
