Students: 325669, Price:  Free

At the end of this short course you'll have programmed your first game. You'll learn gameplay development fundamentals by really doing it – writing and running real code on your own machine.

Each step of the course has the source code attached exactly as it should look at that time (click "View Resources" then "Downloadable Resources"), for you to compare to or pick up from, so you can't get stuck!

Begin Your Game Programming Journey the Proven Way

"Make the simplest game possible." "Program a ball and paddle project." "Practice by first remaking something from the 1970's." All beginning developers hear this advice from more experienced peers... because it works!

By following this approach you will:

  • Learn design from a fun classic that people know and enjoy.
  • Start your practice today – now! – without waiting for an idea.
  • Finish your game in hours or in a weekend, not over months.
  • Understand every line of code used in the entire program.
  • Avoid distraction from searching for or creating detailed art.
  • Master fundamentals needed to make your own games better.

You can program this game with a normal text editor, and run it in the web browser you already have. No special software is needed.

Though you'll be coding in JavaScript for HTML5 canvas in this course, the focus is on common game programming concepts. You can later apply these same patterns to get quick results in other programming languages such as C#, Java, ActionScript 3, C++, or Python.

I'm a private game development trainer, and for clients new to gameplay programming this is exactly the material that I cover to get them started quickly. Within hours you will have finished programming your first project. This is the fastest way to get results. The momentum gained from doing this provides a solid foundation to give more advanced concepts meaning and context as you continue on in your journey of learning game development.

Learn How to Code Dynamic Websites with PHP 5+ for absolute beginners!

This course is a total beginners guide to coding dynamic websites with PHP so you need no prior knowledge or experience with PHP — although, it is a good idea if you know some HTML & CSS. (My beginner's guide Build a Website from Scratch with HTML & CSS will teach you everything you need to know about HTML & CSS.)

Practical Hands-on Approach

My approach with this course, like many of my courses, is to take a practical "hands on" approach. While there will be some theory involved — every single lesson requires you to get your hands dirty and exercise what you've learned in that specific lesson. I find this to be the best approach, because you're able to retain much more of what you learned, and therefore, get up and running with maximizing your practical knowledge of PHP quickly!

Why Should I Learn PHP?

So — why learn PHP? Well, PHP is a very powerful scripting language used by millions of websites. Some of the most popular websites and frameworks utilize PHP to build their dynamic websites. PHP works very well with HTML, and therefore will allow you to start coding dynamic websites quickly without having to learn some of the more complicated scripting languages out there.

You Will Love This Course

I think you're going to love this course, and you're going to especially love what you're going to learn. When I first started learning PHP, I couldn't wait to start implementing what I learned into my websites! I think you'll feel the same.

It's Totally Free!

Also, I am excited to be offering this course absolutely free for three reasons:

  1. I don't want a purchasing decision to get in the way of you learning what I have to offer in this course.

  2. I want as many people as possible to be able access the content.

  3. I want to give you learning material so good that it should cost money.

The Final Project

Throughout the course you will be building a handful of dynamic PHP examples, but in the last section of the course, we will build a dynamic website for a (fictional) restaurant.

So, I invite you to join me in learning how to Code Dynamic Websites with PHP!

Let's do this.

“I think everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer — because it teaches you how to think.” - Steve Jobs

Programming is becoming an essential skill in nearly every modern industry. In fact, it's predicted that by 2020 there will be 1,000,000 more computer science jobs than computer science students. Wow!

But more than any of that, when taught correctly, programming can be a whole heap of fun! Learning to code is an amazing, practical and hugely rewarding hobby and skill for kids of all ages.

In this jam-packed 1 hour course, we focus on the tools, techniques and ideas you can use to inspire fun and creativity in programming. With an emphasis on applications, the course steers away from code syntax or the conventions of any specific language and keeps the focus on making coding fun. In fact you won't need any background or knowledge in programming at all.

Covering games, exercises, apps and more, the course is divided into four distinct sections to help guide you from introducing your kids to code, all the way to advancing them into more complex programming:

  1. Preparation
  2. Before the Code
  3. Where to Start
  4. Next Steps

So if your kids, class or school are excited about using technology to change the world, this course will give you everything you need to provide a practical and fun foundation for your kids to fall in love with coding.

Basic Coding in JavaScript [2019]

Have fun while learning how to program a computer

Created by Zach Freedman - Software Engineer

Students: 55495, Price: Free

Students: 55495, Price:  Free

March 17, 2019

If you want to have fun while learning how to code, keep reading. My name is Zach Freedman, I've been programming for almost 10 years, and I promise this course can teach you how to program so long as you speak English and have a PC/Mac with an internet connection. Coding is less about memorization and more about learning how to solve problems. I'm here to enable you to build whatever you want with your computer by teaching the basics, with some laughs thrown in along the way. Checkout some of the free lectures to see how I teach (these are longer because they're more complete projects).

I believe people learn best by doing, as opposed to sitting in a classroom and listening to theory. I also feel it's important to have fun, because otherwise we get distracted and quit. Here, I'll be more of a companion sharing my information rather than a teacher forcing you to do something. There's no homework, or tests, or grades. If you want to learn more, continue to the next lecture.

This won't be easy, and it will be new and strange, but struggling with this material is the only way it's learned (and remember, you've got me). In this course, I hand-hold early on to ensure newcomers grasp the basics, and then slowly, we'll take off the training wheels. Together, we'll go through applied examples of each fundamental programming concept discussed. Afterwards, I'll allow you to solve challenges alone, providing how I would tackle the same problem.

Topics covered include (but aren't limited to):

- JavaScript

- problem solving and logical thinking

- asking the internet for help (Googling)

- command prompt (Windows) and terminal (Mac)

- Node and NPM basics

- printing and output

- error debugging and tracing code

- object types

- strings

- variables and constants

- loops

- conditionals

- functions

- recursion

- objects

- dictionaries, maps, or hash tables

- arrays

- numbers

- math and mathematical operations

- boolean logic

- data structures

- algorithms

- object oriented programming (OOP) or classes

Students: 6436, Price: Free

Students: 6436, Price:  Free

Do you want to improve your coding skills?

The main tool great software developers use is code refactoring. In this course I will introduce you to the concept of this powerful practice.

If you have a beginner or intermediate level knowledge or even if you have great experience writing code this course would be helpful to you.

During this course you will learn the following:

  • Get familiar with the main types of code smells. Learn to find them in the code

  • You can optimize your code, make it clearer, more logical and readable

  • Learn about the most popular refactorings, get acquainted with their mechanics

  • Learn how to step-by-step apply refactorings in your code

Basic Code Smells

  • complex expressions and computations

  • multiple assignments to a temp variable

  • magic literals in code

  • hard to understand conditions

  • nested if statements logic

  • long method parameter lists

  • complex method bodies

  • classes with mixed responsibilities

What is Refactoring

Code refactoring is the process of changing your existing code so that it becomes more readable and easy to modify in future.

But these changes should preserve the existing functionality. Code refactoring is a continuous process and it is done in small incremental steps.

  • change of existing code

  • preserves functionality

  • continuous process

  • small incremental steps

Refactoring Goals

  • better design

  • reduced complexity

  • readability

  • maintainability

  • improved architecture

Important to Know

If refactoring is done well, it will greatly improve your code.

by simplifying the underlying logic and eliminating unnecessary levels of complexity.

If done poorly it may change functionality or introduce new bugs.

In this course we will discuss in detail the following refactorings:

  • Introduce Explaining Variable

  • Split Temporary Variable

  • Replace With Constant

  • Simplify Condition

  • Split Conditional

  • Combine Conditional

  • Replace Conditional With Guard Clause

According to the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), fast-growing fields such as healthcare and social services require administrative roles to support their growth. If you are highly organized and efficient, this may be the job for you.

Medical secretaries receive patients, assist them with filling out forms, maintain and retrieve medical files, and transcribe and type medical reports. Generally, they organize the huge amounts of data that the office generates every day.

A medical secretary's job is mainly office oriented. Medical secretaries often spend a good part of their workday in the front office area where there is a lot of interaction with patients and other members of the public. Work hours are mostly the standard nine to five excluding weekends, and one may opt for a part-time job.

  • A medical secretary should have good knowledge of computer applications, spreadsheets, and medical software. This knowledge enables them to perform duties like updating patient information, scheduling appointments and managing the physician's schedule.

  • They should also have good verbal and written communication skills in order for them to be able to write and prepare reports, talk with patients (both in person and by telephone), and transcribe and type medical reports.

Are you interested in pursuing this career path and want to know what are the daily duties of a Medical Secretary?

The demand for Medical Secretaries is high, ensuring that there are plenty of jobs available for people who are interested in becoming a Medical Secretary.

Remember, medical Secretaries take on some of the workload of doctors and other healthcare practitioners, making them a valuable asset in this field.
