Kanban is not a software development lifecycle methodology or an approach to project management.

It requires that some process is already in place so that Kanban can be applied to

incrementally change the underlying process.

—David Anderson, Kanban

Kanban is a popular framework used to implement agile and DevOps software development. It requires real-time communication of capacity and full transparency of work. Work items are represented visually on a kanban board, allowing team members to see the state of every piece of work at any time.

A Kanban board is an agile project management tool designed to help visualize work, limit work-in-progress, and maximize efficiency (or flow).

It can help both agile and DevOps teams establish order in their daily work. Kanban boards use cards, columns, and continuous improvement to help technology and service teams commit to the right amount of work, and get it done!

This course will help you explore how working on an Agile project using Kanban has benefits for your development team, your end users, and your organization as a whole.

We will identify various process flow related issues including too much work in progress, underutilization of resources, lengthy tasks, unequal sized tasks etc. using simple and easy to understand demonstrations on Kanban board.

We will not only identify these inefficiencies but also solve for the same by continuously improving the process flow using Kanban Board.

Here is a list of the topics we will cover in this course:

  • Introduction to Kanban & Kanban Board

  • Finding Inefficiencies in the Process

  • Limiting Work in Progress

  • Under utilization of Resources

  • Unequal Sized Tasks

  • Marking the Tasks

  • Other Inefficiencies/Issues

Learn how to use the tool used by teams and individuals all over the world.

One of the things every creative professional has to manage is tasks and projects. Regardless if we work on our own or as part of a team. The number of software apps that promise to make this part of our job easier is growing every year. Yet at the core of many of them is a methodology called Kanban.

Kanban is easy to learn. And doing that allows us to design our task and project management in the way that serves us best. Whether we use software for that or just a whiteboard and sticky notes.

Kanban for Individuals and Small Teams

  • What Kanban is and where it comes from

  • How to create a board

  • How to create tasks (a.k.a. cards) and how to prioritise them

  • How to work with a WIP Limit and increase focus

  • How to enhance our board and make it more flexible

  • How to design a Kanban workflow that specifically meets the needs of a specific project

  • Finding the best task size

Kanban for Software Teams

  • Designing a board for the Software Development workflow

  • Working with "Done Rules" for increased quality

  • Using WIP limits to indicate workflow imbalances

  • Estimation for Kanban teams: working with tasks of same size

I am a certified Scrum Product Owner and Scrum Master. Working with agile teams has taught me a lot about project management in creative environments. No project is like the other. Teams change, customers change, requirements change. For that reason it is important to have a system that can change with you. And that is easily understood by coworkers and customers alike.

What's great about Kanban is that it is flexible enough to grow from one-person daily task management to a tool that is used by entire teams and complex workflows.

The average annual salary for an Agile Coach in US is about $138,000 and the demand for Agile professionals keeps increasing. There are a lot of Agile-related certifications in the market (PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, SAFe practitioner and many more), but most of them are focused on a certain framework, while an Agile Coach profession requires a deep understanding of an array of frameworks along with the underlying principles and values. Depending on team and product, you would need to tailor the existing frameworks or create a new framework from scratch.

This course will teach you all the Agile basics along with advanced concepts, tools and skills any successful coach needs to have.

I will start by teaching you the foundation of Agile: Agile principles, product development processes, different types of users and user research. We will then dig into product work: user stories, product backlog, planning, prioritization, estimation and reviewing. After that we will put all those building blocks together and will talk about specific Agile frameworks: Scrum, Kanban, Xtreme Programming, Lean Startup and Scaled Agile. Finally, I will teach you how to work with a team: analyzing product, process and team's health, improving communication, approaching the Agile transformation and fixing various problems. We will also cover the most popular software such as Jira, Asana, Trello and Monday.

After finishing this course you will have all the knowledge and skills you need to become a successful Agile coach.

This course contains over 11 hours of video and downloadable guidebook. It also includes a unique Agile Maturity scorecard which would help you to quickly screen any team's level of Agile maturity and identify areas for improvements. On top of that, you get access to Health Monitor facilitation tools.

Interested in delivering more value, in less time? Then, this course is for you!

In this course, you will master how to boost your value delivery stream using Scrum, the most popular Agile framework.

Check out some data that shows that mastering Scrum is a great opportunity for you:

  • Glassdoor includes Scrum Master, which is a Scrum Accountability, in its list of highest-paying jobs, with an average of $97,000+, per year.

  • LinkedIn included Product Owner, another Scrum Accountability, in its 2020 Most Promising Jobs list.

  • The Project Management Institute claims that 70% of organizations worldwide are using Agile.

  • The State of Agile Report 2020 claims that around 70% of Agile initiatives worldwide adopt Scrum.

At this point, you have enough information to understand that learning Scrum can uplift your career.

However, why take this course?

Let me give you 10 reasons why taking this course is a smart move for you.

1) The instructor, Mirko Perkusich, has both industry and academic experience. He has over 10 years of experience working with big players in the software industry, such as Nokia, Asus, and Sony; additionally, he has also worked with startups. Further, he has a Ph.D. in Computer Science. His research focuses mostly on Agile Software Development (and Scrum) with over 60 published international scientific articles in state-of-the-art journals and conferences. He is the only instructor on Udemy capable of bringing the best of industry and academy to enhance your learning experience.

2) The course is eye-opening, clearly explaining Scrum with examples, proper learning curve, analogies, and visual explanations!

3) The course is filled with practical real-world cases, including the Scrum War Stories, for you to learn how Scrum works behind the trenches.

4) The course contains exclusive practice exams for you to simulate the experience of taking the Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) certification assessment and test your knowledge.

5) You won’t only dominate the most popular Agile framework for delivering products, Scrum, but also all the skills you need to be a successful Agile (Scrum) manager (or practitioner) recognized and capable of conquering great opportunities in the labor market.

6) This course was strategically built to maximize your learning potential by using scientifically demonstrated techniques to optimize your brain's capabilities of constructing the necessary neural paths to learn its content.

7) This course offers free extra content to help you to study (and learn) faster by using scientifically proven techniques.

8) This course is the only one that goes beyond the technicalities of Scrum and offers, for free, extra courses for your complementary formation in interpersonal soft skills that will potentialize your results (read more below).

9) We go WAY beyond what other courses go. Instead of selling Scrum and Agile as the silver bullet for Project Management (SPOILER: it is not!), and sell ourselves as "agile gurus" or something similar, we teach you how to use Scrum to solve complex problems, but we give you the necessary context to understand when, why and how to use it.

10) This course is a result of years of applying Agile and Scrum in companies from the most diverse areas. Even though not all the practices discussed in the course can be automatically applied to other situations, this course explains to you the necessary foundations to tailor the discussed solutions to your context, even if you know nothing today!

Students Testimonials (What are students saying about Mirko's courses?):

"Undoubtedly the Best Course! Thanks a MIllion, Mirko!!!" - Mirza Mehdi, Business Analyst

"As my goal is to get in a role of a Scrum Master, learning about Scrum, in general, is a must. This course gives good overall knowledge about the topic, with examples and some good tips. For me, as a beginner, it was a valuable experience." - Marko Djordjevic

"I like the course content! I will definitely recommend taking the course if you want to gain the full guide on Agile and specifically on Scrum. The Instructor explains each detail very clearly. Before this, I took another good course, but it gave me basic knowledge. This one was the best match for me. It gave me complete and enough knowledge about Scrum." - Anna Kirakosyan, Project Coordinator

"I never worked with Agile/Scrum, but I heard a lot, mainly negative things, so I started this course from a quite pessimistic and skeptical point of view. Now I can say, it was changed now, however, my opinion is still that some companies try to use the Agile/Scrum method as a golden tool for everything, even when the traditional project management would be better in that case. Anyway, now my opinion was changed and I would be happy to use this new knowledge in my job. During the training I got all help and support from the trainer, even for my extra questions. So finally I am very satisfied and I could offer this training to others without any doubt. Thanks, Mirko! :)" - Gabor Szentesi, Quality Manager

"This course is one of the best I’ve taken in Udemy. I like its progressive style along with helpful quizzes and tips, which has helped me to assimilate and consolidate a solid knowledge about agile management with Scrum. Not to mention the insights that Dr. Mirko brings to the table with a perfect alignment between theory and practice, which also helped me a lot to connect with the concepts covered in the course. Dr. Mirko has great teaching skills. I couldn't recommend it more." - João Nunes, Software Engineer

"The course brings a lot of valuable information. The way that it's conducted and things are presented makes it easier to stay focused on the lectures. Moreover, the fact that it's not focused on Scrum practices and roles only, and relations with Agile principles are made, makes it even more valuable. I strongly recommend it to anyone. For people who already know Scrum very well, this is a good source of information to recycle from time to time, or even acquire a deeper understanding about it." - Arthur Freire, Software Engineering

"It's a clear course with pleasant listening. It has a glossary, templates, and tips for learning (I used the concept maps). The course is hands-on with helpful quizzes (You write yourself epics, use backlogs, and more). You will get a good idea of Scrum and insights on project management. It's to-the-point, quite fast-paced (perfect), and fun. I can only recommend this course!" - Diana van Wijk, Marketing Specialist

"The course not only conveys knowledge and skills but also teaches the right approach that significantly increases the efficiency of using this framework. All in an accessible and friendly, but also professional, form." - Bagu Bagu

"I came in knowing nothing about Scrum and I now I feel that I am prepared to apply it. This course doesn't focus only on certifications, which are nice but don't mean much. It focuses on putting Scrum to practice. So, yes, I recommend it if you really want to know how to apply Scrum, when to use it, and when not to. Great job!" - José Silva, Undergrad student

"Informative, comprehensive, and good consolidated training...absorbed and enjoyed the learning curve. Thanks to Mirko and team!" - Narayan Ragothma Rao, Executive Director

So, I recommend this course to you get the knowledge, practice and if you so get the Scrum Certification, this course is really complete." - Leonardo Melo de Medeiros, College Professor, and Research Scientist

"Very good! The approach of not only talking about the practices but focus on the agile mindset and management is what attracted me the most to this course and it has been a great experience. The first section is done and I didn't even notice. Congratulations on such an excellent course." - Thiago Xavier, UI and UX Designer

"I like how you get straight to the point but also make things very clear to understand!" - Nina Paleracio

"All concepts clearly explained. Great examples and case studies provided to reinforce the theory." - Crystal Glassford, General Manager

"He's actually doing a great job of making what I was presuming to be a boring, tired class, into something I want to learn. Not lying about the subject matter is the best start. Promises kept are promises earned." - Jeremy D Shorter, Financial Analyst

"Mirko has a very good didactic and the course is highly recommended for people who are looking to develop their skills in agile management. There are also good quizzes to help us to keep in mind the presented content" - Giovani Cavalcante Barbosa, Data Scientist

"Very good course. It is clear, direct, instructive, exactly what I need to get started with Scrum. This course indeed exceeded my expectations." - Leandro Dias da Silva, College Professor and Research Scientist

This course is not like that, but it really is a straightforward approach that is helping to adapt and improve the management skills of my project teams. For me, it worths a five-star rating, certainly the 60-lessons worths the price by itself." - Fabricio Silva, QA Manager

"It's the best online course on agile management. I think it was under-promised and over-delivered. The course organization and resources are amazing. I especially liked that the instructors shared the obstacles and challenges for applying Scrum in practice." - Kyller Costa Gorgônio, College Professor and Research Scientist

Student Testimonials (Real students after in-person training)

"Great and useful introduction" Janine, Hampton Roads Entrepreneurs Forum

"Strongly agree that the learning objectives were clear" Jon M, Hampton Roads Entrepreneurs Forum

Average participants rated their level of skill/knowledge at the start of the course as "poor" and "excellent" at the end, Hampton Roads Entrepreneurs Forum student survey data.

What does that data me?

Students saw a jump in skill from "poor" to "excellent" by attending this training in person.

After teaching this course in person, I have had students implement Scrum at work successfully but also start "Scrum Families".  Scrum can help your personal life by organizing your family and creating happier family teams.

Perhaps you didn't fully understand everything you learned when you went through your original scrum master training. It's a lot of information to go through and sometimes it can be confusing.

Many people go through their course and don't understand how all the components of the Scrum Framework fit together. They need practical examples and more practice tests in order to be prepared for their Certified Scrum Master Test.

Sometimes the numbers and techniques in order to calculate things like a product burned down chart or a Sprint burned down chart can be really confusing. Often times, courses don't fully cover how to calculate these important charts. If they do, they don't give you reference material to look back on if you ever get confused in the future.

Some people go through courses and only get taught how scrum applies to software. This can be really discouraging because scrum is also used in hardware, service, and family settings. Without understanding how scrum is applied in different industries and settings you won't be able to use it effectively.

This is why many people say scrum doesn't work, they never were trained properly. They try to implement Scrum and go agile without understanding what they're doing. The results can be disappointing but it's not scrum or agile's fault, the people who tried it just didn't know how to do it right.

You can't try to implement Scrum without having a full understanding of the Scrum framework and a thoughtful approach to applying it with your team. If you don't fully understand the Scrum framework you won't really be doing Scrum. You'll be doing something, but it won't be Scrum. Your results will be disappointing since you need to use the full scrum framework to be effective.

Some organizations don't understand how to be agile. They know they should be agile, but they don't know how so they just start using a lot of confusing terms. The resulting mayhem is disruptive for everyone. Agile can only be done right when it's done thoughtfully.

How can this course help?

First and foremost, this course will prepare you for your certified scrum Master test. It will review all of the foundations of the Scrum framework and provide enough practical examples so you'll have no problem with your test.

If you have been exposed to scrum but don't really understand it fully, this course can also help by providing you with a comprehensive and integrated explanation. We break down every part of the Scrum framework and provide you with practical examples of how to do it. You'll learn scrum in a way that will apply to any industry.

We can help you calculate your product burned down, Sprint burned down, and team velocity charts. Will build a case study so you can see how to calculate all of the numbers. Don't worry, the calculations are easy and will walk you through step-by-step. The good thing about having this done online as you can go back and refer to it if you're ever confused in the future. Calculate your charts with confidence knowing that you've mastered the math and science behind scrum measurements.

You will learn a thoughtful approach to implementing the Scrum framework so that you'll have the best chances of success with your team. You won't learn a rigid one-size-fits-all approach to the Scrum framework, you'll learn a flexible and thoughtful approach so you can lead scrum implementations and agile change in any organization.

This will make you competitive in any job market and ensure you remain relevant no matter what happens in the future.

You'll learn what agile really means and how scrum makes your organization agile. You can cut through the confusion and jargon and effectively deliver product to market.  You will emerge as a thought leader within your workplace being able to guide others through the confusing world of agile. This will allow you to mentor your teammates, up-lead your supervisors, and gain a reputation for excellence.

Still not convinced this course can help?

According to the Bureau of Labor and statistics, workers hold 10 different jobs on average before they turn 40. This number is likely to grow in the future as jobs and industries become more fluid and changing.

It's not enough to have one skill and one career. The odds are, you need many skills and will have many careers throughout your working life. This is a problem because most workers don't have the time or resources to go back to school after their career begins.

The demands of family, bills, and real life quickly set in. These demands on time and money become overwhelming for many. The idea of going back to school to acquire additional education is out of reach. People do not have the time or the resources in order to re-skill their careers once they've begun.

What makes the situation more complicated, is that many careers are going out of date. The reason people are changing careers so often is because their old careers are being replaced. Software, technology, and automation are making lifelong employment challenging.

This trend will only continue. The accelerating pace of technology and the number of programmers available to corporations means will see shorter careers and an increased need for retraining.

The good news is, more and more companies are requiring agile experience. It's a valuable skill to be able to lead agile implementations and to understand how to work on a scrum team. This increases your value to potential employers and allows you to be more productive. Instead of being confused by the Scrum framework you can lead scrum change.

By taking this course, you can do this from the comfort of your home, the convenience of your phone, in any location, whenever you have a free moment. This allows you to add a valuable skill to your resume without having to spend an enormous sum of money returning to school. This also allows you the flexibility to add this skill to your resume on your own terms.

Taking this class will add a valuable skill without adding the requirement to commute to school, register at an institution, or travel to in-person training.

Join today, prepare for your scrum Master test, and go agile.

The score to achieve the certification is 85%+. You get only one attempt (upon payment of fee) and you would get the choice to decide when and where to the exam. There is no expiration date. You are not required to attend an assessment center and can take it from the comfort of your own home. If you do not pass the exam, you can retake the exam, however you would have to pay the fees again. Note :

1. This course contains Questions and Answers which will help you prepare for the Scrum .org exam. This course is not a replacement for the Scrum Guide, the scrum learning paths or the scrum. org assessments.  One has to read the Scrum Guide and go through the learnings paths found on scrum. org (multiple times) to understand the concepts well. This is not optional.

2. The Questions and Answers in this practice exam are not a replica nor a replacement of the Open Assessments found at https://www.scrum .org/.

3. Based on the guidelines provided by Scrum .org, none of the questions are copied from the Open Assessments found at https://www.scrum .org/. If similar questions exist, then it's merely a coincidence. The underlying concepts however are similar if not the same.

4. The Questions which appear on the exam along with the answers will be different from what you find in this practice exam.

Following are the steps for taking (and passing) the Scrum .org Professional Scrum Kanban (PSK) assessment and obtaining the certification:

1. If you are new to Scrum and have never been part of a Scrum team, taking a PSM I course is recommended. Attend a Scrum .org Professional Scrum Master I course.

2. Prepare for or Revisit PSM I Exam.

3. Carefully Read the Scrum Guide and the Kanban Guide on Scrum .org.

4. Read the following articles by Yuval Yeret on Scrum (dot) org :

    A) 4 Key Flow Metrics and how to use them in Scrum's events.

    B) Limiting Work in Progress (WIP) in Scrum with Kanban - What? When? Who? How?

    C) Kanban Service Level Expectations and how to use them in Scrum.

    D) A Scrum Primer for Kanban Teams.

    E) A Kanban Primer for Scrum Teams.

5. Go through the questions and answers. These questions were compiled very carefully. Go through the answers and make sure you understand the concepts. Make sure you go through the answers explanations regardless of whether you answered the questions correctly or not.

6. Take the Scrum Open Assessment and Kanban Open Assessment on Scrum .org until you can do the assessment quickly and score close to 100% three times in a row. Few Questions which are asked on the exam are the exact same.

7.  You can choose buy the book Quick Reference Guide & Exam Questions - PSK (ISBN: ISBN: 9781732657984). This guide systematically highlights all the important information present on the Scrum Guide, Learning Paths, Websites and other Forums needed for the PSK Exam.

Concepts were reinforced in a clear, impactful manner through the use of animation, easy to understand language and high quality, concise content. Lesson sequence and pacing was spot on. Humor incorporated into the course enhanced my overall enjoyment. As a non-IT professional, I appreciated the examples provided, specifically the example used to demonstrate batch size and single-piece flow concepts. This course proved valuable and worth the investment! - Brittany Daniels"
