Bonjour! Hello and welcome to 3 Minute French :-)

3 Minute French is a collection of online lessons that helps the complete beginner learn to speak French in simple, bite-sized chunks.

The lessons start off by giving you a few words that you can use to build your own sentences. For example, in lesson one, you'll learn these words and phrases:

bon - good
c'est - it is
fantastique - fantastic
ici - here
très - very
ce n'est pas - it isn't

With those words, you can build sentences like these:

It's good.
It's here.
It's very good here.
It isn't here.
It isn't good; it's fantastic!

(See if you can translate those five sentences above into French just by using those words and phrases.)

The lessons continuously build on what you've been learning, enabling you to express yourself fluently in French. As you move through the course, you'll pick up new vocabulary, useful grammar points and interesting ways to look at the structure of the French language that will give you plenty of "Aha!" moments.

The reason it's called "3 Minute French" is because the lessons are broken down into very short, three-minute chunks. Everybody, no matter how busy you are, has time to fit in a single three-minute lesson once a day, and in fact, by keeping learning to such short chunks, you'll reap huge benefits. Short but consistent daily lessons are more effective than a longer lesson once or twice a week, because you'll find you maintain enthusiasm, develop a learning habit and you'll also memorise everything much better.

If you've never learnt French before, or if you have had a bad experience with learning this beautiful language, the 3 Minute French lessons will help you to succeed.

Merci :-)

Kieran

14-day English language fluency course

Are you struggling to speak English?

Have you spent hours learning new words, studying grammar, watching English movies, listening to English music and now you wonder why you can’t use all of this knowledge in a conversation?

Well, here’s your answer!

Speaking English is a skill- just like swimming. Can you learn swimming from a book? No. How about from a movie? No, again. You need to get into the pool and start doing the action. Speaking, like swimming, is an action.

So, the ONLY way to improve your spoken English is to speak.

That’s where this course helps you!

How does this course work?

I have divided this course into 14 days. Each day has a new topic and each topic is divided into 4 short videos.

The first video will introduce 8 words or terms. In this video I will explain the meaning of these words and provide an example of how it can be used in a sentence. At the end, we will review the vocabulary.

In the second video I provide an example speech of the topic. In this video I use the words from video 1 to make a speech. This allows you to see me using the vocabulary.

The third video is the most important video. In this video I give you a chance to make a speech using the vocabulary of the topic. But there is one rule:

  • You can’t say: umm, ahh, enn or any other vocal-filled pause or interjection.

Why?

Well, this is a fluency course. If you always need to stop and think about what to say next, then you’re not speaking fluently. If you do break the rule, simply stop and start your speech again.

The final video is a dictation test. Listen to me say the words from the topic and write them down. Then, compare your spelling with the actual spelling of the words.

Can I really improve my spoken English with this course?

I believe you can. I have used this method with literally hundreds of students and have seen my students’ speaking ability improve dramatically.

Why should I choose this course over other courses?

Price.

Firstly, it’s free (for the moment) so you have nothing to lose.

Enthusiastic teacher.

Secondly, I think I teach this course in an enthusiastic way and hope that this enthusiasm spreads to you. I believe that if you want to learn anything, you must be enthusiastic or you will simply give up.

There is a finish line that you can see.

By knowing that this course is only 14 days, I hope that it provides you with the feeling that it is short sprint and not a marathon.

Consistency is key (or king).

It’s much more effective to study a few minutes a day than to study for a few hours once or twice a week. I want English to be your hobby that you enjoy not your habit that you hate. By only studying for a few minutes a day (but doing it every day) it is less likely that you will come to hate learning.

Remember what you learn.

I believe that quality is more important than quantity. My rule as an ESL/EFL teacher is to teach between 5 to 10 words per 1-hour class. This is because how many words you study is not important. Only how many words you can use is the number that we should care about. I see many students trying to remember 30 or even 50 words a day! But, the sad thing is the next day they may only remember 4 or 5. I will teach you vocabulary in a way that allows you to retain the vocabulary that you learn.

Develop a habit for learning.

Finally, many people say that it takes 2 weeks to develop a habit. I hope this course will provide you with the framework to develop a habit of study. While this is my only course (at the moment) here on Udemy, there are many other fantastic courses on here to study. I hope that you can use this course as a stepping stone for your continued growth.

Sign up now and start speaking right away!

So, if you want to learn to speak English more fluently whilst getting your hands on some useful vocabulary, then why not try my 14-day English language fluency course? You have nothing to lose and you will be very glad you did.

Thank you and see you soon,

Joel

Bonjour et bienvenue :-)
(Hello and welcome)

There is nothing more thrilling than being able to speak to the locals in their own language when you visit a foreign country. Well, now you can experience that amazing feeling too!

My name is Kieran Ball and I’ve been teaching foreign languages in my hometown for over fifteen years. I love languages, I love learning and I love teaching. I also love chocolate, but this isn’t really the place to discuss my chocoholism!

I created 3 Minute French as a way to make learning French easier than ever before and accessible to anybody, especially people who have tried and failed in the past. My course is perfect for the complete beginner as I break down the French language into tiny chunks that I show you how to build back together again in a logical, simple to understand way. You can go from knowing no French at all to putting together your own sentences in just a few minutes. Watch the free preview lessons below and you’ll see what I mean.

TRY THE FREE PREVIEW LESSONS

I really want everybody to see that they can learn to speak French, so I’ve turned the first fifteen videos of this course into free previews, meaning you can watch them without even signing up. If nothing else, I just want you to see how easy it is to learn French.

HOW DOES 3 MINUTE FRENCH WORK?

As the name suggests, each lesson in this course lasts just three minutes (more or less!). In each lesson, you learn a tiny chunk of French that you can use to build sentences. As you work through the course, you learn more and more little chunks and your sentences will gradually get longer and longer.

The chunks that you learn in the first lessons are carried through to the last lessons. This means you don’t have to worry about trying to remember everything; you will get so much opportunity for practice that you will find the words and phrases just sink into your brain.

The lessons in this course are focused, practical and effective, and you will build language skills that you can use straight away in real-world situations. You will be able to speak French comfortably and with confidence whenever you’re in a French speaking country.

WHY 3 MINUTES?

When you begin learning something new, you tend to start off with lots of excitement and motivation. You might spend a few hours on the first day learning, but then the next day, you can only manage one hour, and then that goes down to half an hour, and then you get bored and you give up. Well, the reason behind the very short lessons is that it helps you to stay motivated and it also enhances the learning process.

By keeping your learning to short chunks, you will find three wonderful things start to happen:

1. You will maintain enthusiasm

If you want to learn anything, you have to maintain enthusiasm or else you won’t continue. If you limit your study time to just three minutes, you’ll keep French fresh and exciting and you’ll be eager to learn. If you spend hours studying, very quickly you’ll get bored with French and it’ll turn into a chore.

2. You will study more consistently

It’s much better to study for just three minutes once a day than to study for three hours once a week. A spare three minutes is relatively easy to find even in the most hectic of schedules. If you make sure you complete at least one three-minute study session every day, it’ll quickly become a habit that you’ll do without thinking. It’s much easier to fit in a daily three-minute habit than a weekly one-hour habit. By doing this, you’ll become a much more consistent learner, and consistency is the key to success.

3. You will remember things better

This is my favourite reason as to why you should limit your study to just three-minute chunks. If you study something for just three minutes every day, you’ll trick your brain into memorising the information more quickly than if it were to see the information for hours each day. It’ll think, “I see this information every day so it must be important, but I don’t see it for very long, so I’d better hold onto it and make it into a memory fast!” You’ll be amazed at how much more easily things tend to stay in your brain if you limit yourself to just three minutes a day.

So, that’s why I keep the lessons to just three minutes.

A METHOD THAT REALLY WORKS

I can’t quite believe it, but over 130,000 people in more than 200 countries have now used 3 Minute Languages to learn to speak a foreign language. It still amazes me when I get an email from somebody on the other side of the world telling me how much they have enjoyed learning French with me. Apart from the thrill it gives me to find out people are listening to my voice in places like Mongolia, Peru and even Fiji, it also confirms to me that the 3 Minute Languages courses work well.

So, if you want a course that teaches you to speak French you can use in everyday situations using a simple and fun method, then sign up to 3 Minute French today.

Merci :-)

3 Minute French – Course 2 | Language lessons for beginners

Build on from the French skills you learnt in Course 1 and learn how to communicate in even more situations

Created by Kieran Ball - 3 Minute Languages, 313,000+ students

"]

Students: 12808, Price: $119.99

Students: 12808, Price:  Paid

This is the second course in the 3 Minute French series and it consists of lessons 10-18. If you're familiar with all the words and phrases you learnt in the course 1, then you're ready to go!

The good thing about the 3 Minute French courses is that everything you learn is recapped in later lessons, so you don't have to worry about going back to the start to refresh your memory (although you can if you like, it won't harm you). At the end of every lesson are some recap practice exercises to make sure words and phrases you learnt previously are still secure in your memory.

In this course, you'll start to look at some different sentence structures in French. You'll be looking at some ways to ask questions and then you'll get an introduction to a very useful part of the language: verbs. All of this will open up the French language to you, giving you many more things to say. Don't worry if you've never come across verbs before, or if you've had a bad experience with learning grammar; everything in this course is explained in a simple and easy to understand way.

As well as the new structures, we'll be exploring some new topic areas including telling the time in French, booking taxis and asking where things are. We'll also look at an interesting linguistic feature in English called the Saxon Genitive, and we'll discover that it doesn't exist in French so we'll need ways to get around it.

The best way to tackle the trickier features of any language is to spread them out rather than looking at them all at once. Sometimes, when you open a foreign language instruction book, all the linguistic features of the language are introduced on the first page, and it can often be very off putting! In the 3 Minute French courses, I have broken them down and spread them about. We look at each particular feature when it crops up naturally in the order of the course. In this course, there are a few such features that need explaining in order to understand how some of the French structures work.

In this course, there are also some more Vocabulary Expansion Sheets for you to boost your French vocabulary.

I hope you enjoy :-)

French Level 3: The Ultimate Guide to Master Reading French

Have you always wanted to read Les Misérables or The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo, Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) by Antoine de St-Exupéry, and L'Étranger (The Stranger) by Albert Camus in their original French language? Now is your chance because this course will teach you how to read a complete novel in French.

Novels and books are usually written in more formal writing than you may encounter in spoken language. It's important to read in another language to help you build vocabulary and familiarize yourself with more complex and advanced grammar. This course will teach you about many of the advanced grammar concepts in the French language, like the subjunctive.

What makes this course unique?

  • PRACTICAL: My approach to improving your reading skills in French is very practical. You will learn grammar, vocabulary, and writing conventions that you will actually encounter in a book, novel, or text written in French.

  • READING TOGETHER: This course is structured around the reading of famous French novels, like Le Petit Prince by Antoine de St-Exupéry. In each module, we read through a chapter together. Then, we dissect all of the grammatical components of the chapter and some important vocabulary before we put it all back together again. By the end of the course, you will have read an entire novel on your own.

  • PRONUNCIATION: Not only will you improve your reading skills, but this course includes a pronunciation component so that you can hear all of the words in each chapter read out loud.

French is spoken on every continent around the world, and it is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Learning to read in French can help you not only read novels, but to read social media, academic articles, professional or legal documents, and everyday items like labels or signs all in French.

What will you be able to do after the course is finished?

  • Read a whole book or novel completely in French

  • Put into practice strategies to remember new vocabulary more easily

  • Understand and recognize grammatical conventions specific to French writing and French novels

  • Form complex sentences with qui, que, dont, lequel, duquel, auquel, ce que, ce qui, and celui

  • Use the French subjunctive (subjonctif) in the present and the past

  • Use the French conditional (conditionnel) in the present and the past

  • Use the French gerund (gérondif)

  • Use the French pluperfect (plus-que-parfait)

  • ...and more!

This is the third course in the 3 Minute French series and it consists of lessons 19-26. The lessons in this course follow on from course 1 and course 2.

In the third course of the 3 Minute French series, we delve into a few French nuances. We'll look at some new verbs and learn how they are used differently in French to how they're used in English. We'll also begin to look at a very useful tool for new language learners: directions. Learning how to ask for directions is invaluable, because it will very often be one of the easiest ways for you to start to tune your ear into the French language. I'll give you a few tips on how to do this.

The sentences in this course might seem a little longer than the ones we've been used to, so far, but this is a great way for you to get your tongue around the French pronunciation. By saying long sentences to yourself over and over, you'll really be able to get to grips with speaking French.

We'll also be learning lots of prepositions, new adjectives and plenty of adverbs, plus some more Vocabulary Expansion Sheets that will make our sentences amazing! We'll be looking at ways to give your opinion on things, and we'll get introduced to some very interesting language features with plenty of practice for you to really get your head around them.

Finally, at the end of this course, you will find an extra section. To round off the tourism theme of the first three courses in the series, I have created a bumper recap section containing a plethora of examples and practise exercises to recap all the words and phrases we've learnt so far.

This course really rounds off the first three courses of the 3 Minute French series, and gets you ready to move onto the next course, which will take your French to the next level.

Happy learning

French is definitely one of the most popular languages in the world. There’s a whole bunch of benefits to knowing French. Let me just mention a few. In our global society you can make use of it in business, becoming a more valuable worker, in private life, on vacation, chatting online, reading literature and press or watching satellite TV. In some parts of the world French is either the main language spoken or one of the main ones. And I could go on and on like that...

This is an intensive course, which means it covers the basics from level zero (absolute beginner) and then you wander across all the lectures and learn quite a lot of stuff. The explanations are concise and clear. You should have no difficulty following and understanding them. A lot of stuff and a lot of practice.

Contents and Overview

This course is pretty comprehensive. It contains all the basic areas of French grammar. Starting off with French spelling and pronunciation, touching upon all the main grammatical categories in the first sections and then going into much more detail in the following sections. The language I use is simple and should be easily understood by absolute beginners.

This course is divided into 10 sections, each of them covering a broad topic subdivided into lectures. The pace is up to you, you can go through the easier parts faster and then take more time to study the more sophisticated ones.

To help you memorize and practice all the new stuff, there are loads of exercises. Most lectures are accompanied by additional resources. These are downloadable files with exercises.

After you finish each section, there’s a quiz for you that covers the material discussed in that section.

Building Structures in French – Structure 1 | French Grammar

Learn about how the French language is put together by breaking it down into its different sentence structures.

Created by Kieran Ball - 3 Minute Languages, 313,000+ students

"]

Students: 2960, Price: $129.99

Students: 2960, Price:  Paid

The whole of the French language can be broken down into several different structures. If you take any sentence from any French book or any utterance, you will see that it fits into one of these structures.

I remember one weekend, I was writing some lessons for the week ahead, when I suddenly realised this. I noticed that there are a certain number of structures in French, and that every sentence follows one of these structures. I spent the rest of the weekend working out all the structures, and I wrote them all down.

Every structure you learn gives you the ability to say a huge amount. Some structures are used more than others, but all the structures together make up the whole French language. Once you’ve learnt how a structure works, all you have to do is insert different words into the slots and you have a sentence.

This course introduces you to structure 1. I’ve limited each course to one structure so as not to overburden you. By looking at just one structure at a time, you can really get to grips with it and understand its usage. It will help to clarify the French language and make it more like a reflex rather than something you have to think about as is it were a maths equation.

Each structure can also help to propel you to fluency; if you can manipulate the structures at high speed, you can start to say anything you want without having to thing about how to say it.

This course contains plenty of practice opportunities for you to revise what you’ve learnt and it also contains some hints and tips on how best to learn and memorise the structures and the vocabulary that goes with them. You’ll learn how to make questions out of structure 1, how to make statements and how to turn positive statements negative.

The Building Structures in French series is set out using the same learning techniques as the 3 Minute French courses. You can work through the course in three minute chunks, enabling anybody to learn French, no matter how little time you have.
