This course tells the story of the early steam railways around the City of Glasgow in Scotland, and their precursors.
In the late eighteenth century industries began to grow up in the port city of Glasgow. The demand for coal grew and transportation was needed to bring it into the city. First canals were built, and then railways. The story of the early railways is told here.
